The Living and the Dead by Konstantin Mikhailovich Simonov

Novel about the Eastern Front written by a frontline journalist and poet. Simonov's work rates up there with Grossman's "Life and Fate." Although this book is only part one of three it is supposidly the best of the three. I enjoyed it immensely as it showed what was happening throughout 1941, a period of the war I am very interested in. There are some books that words simply can't describe well enough, this is one of them. Suffice it to say that you will not regret it if you can get your hands on it. A worthwhile read for anyone interested in history, WWII, or simply wants a good story.
